Cathedral of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" Marks the 40 th Anniversary of the Repose of St John of Shanghai (Maximovich)
The clergymen and flock of the Diocese of San Francisco and Western America marked the 40 th anniversary of the repose of St John of Shanghai and San Francisco with great solemnity and inspiration with a Divine Liturgy, at which His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill officiated along with diocesan and visiting clergymen. During the minor entrance, His Eminence elevated Hegumen Theodosius, Rector of St Tikhon Church at the Diocesan Headquarters and former residence of St John , to the rank of archimandrite, in accordance with a decision of the Synod of Bishops. After the end of Liturgy, a moleben was served along with a procession of the cross, after which the Cathedral Sisterhood offered the clergymen and guests a magnificent trapeza meal.
These "Days of St John" in San Francisco conclude on the day of the Nativity of St John the Forerunner, when the funeral and burial of St John of Shanghai and San Francisco were performed under the Cathedral's altar 40 years ago.
