The Kursk-Root Icon Is Brought To the Cathedral of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia

On February 21, 2010, the feast day of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, the believers of 14 Orthodox communities of Munich prayed before the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign,” brought for a brief visit to the Bulgarian Orthodox parish of St Kliment of Okhrid.

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany and Great Britain, the arrival of the main holy icon of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia was scheduled on the Triumph of Orthodoxy to coincide with the Sixth Meeting of Orthodox Choirs in the Bavarian capital.

Protopriest Nikolai Artemoff, Senior Priest of Munich’s ROCOR cathedral, gave a German-language lecture on the history of the Kursk-Root Icon.

A multitude of Orthodox worshipers prayed to the icon in Russian, Greek, Georgian, Romanian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Armenian, German and other languages, beseeching the Most-Holy Mother of God for her heavenly intercession and for the healing of spiritual and physical ailments.

The Choir Meeting, attended by Vladyka Mark, brought eleven Orthodox choirs of Munich together, which executed over 30 liturgical songs in various languages.

On February 24, during Pre-Sanctified Liturgy, the miracle-working icon was venerated by Orthodox Christians from Holy Resurrection Community of Dachau and Munich of the Moscow Patriarchate.
