Bishop Theodosius of Seattle Conducts Funeral and Burial of Protopresbyter Konstantin Tivetsky
On March 6, 2012, the funeral was held for the most senior priest (by ordination date) of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Protopresbyter Konstantin Tivetsky, at Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles, CA. Fr Konstantin reposed in the Lord on March 2.
Fr Konstantin was born in 1925 and graduated from Odessa Theological Seminary, then the reopened Moscow Theological Academy, a fellow student of the renowned starets [elder] Archimandrite Ioann (Krestyankin) and the future Metropolitan Pitirim (Nechaev) of Volokolams and Yurievsk. Fr Konstantin was ordained to the priesthood in 1948, and served the Holy Church for 63 years, ministering to many parishes in Russia, including the Church of St Nicholas in Khamovniki, the Church of St Boris and Gleb in Ryazan, the Patriarchal Epiphany Cathedral in Elokhovo in Moscow, Holy Trinity Cathedral in Alexandrovka (Vladimir oblast), and the largest parish in Moscow, All Saints Church in Sokol. Upon his arrival in the USA in 1980, Fr Konstantin served in various churches in the Western American Diocese of the Church Abroad, including St Nicholas Cathedral in Seattle, Holy Protection Church and Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles, where he ended his earthly career.
The funerary services were led by His Grace Bishop Theodosius of Seattle, along with Mitred Protopriest Alexander Lebedeff, Mitred Protopriest Stefan Pavlenko, rectors and priests of all the Orthodox churches in Los Angeles, with an enormous gathering of pious laity. Fr Konstantin was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
