The Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America Holds Its Annual St Herman’s Youth Retreat
The annual St Herman’s Youth Retreat of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia was made possible by the active support of Fr Innokenty (Reichert), Rector of SS Sergius and Herman of Valaam Church in Houghton-Atlantic Mine, MI. In addition to giving a talk on St Alexander Schmorell, he and his parishioners made all the arrangements for food, lodging and activities. Other talks were given by Fr Gleb Grozovsky of the Youth Department of the Diocese of St Petersburg (“An Orthodox Understanding of Love”) and Fr Gregory Joyce (“What Every Orthodox Christian Should Know About Islam”). His Grace Bishop Peter participated fully in the conference. He led the hierarchal Divine Liturgy, gave an instructive sermon, and provided insightful answers to questions posed by the youth. Nina Likwar from St Jonah Church in Spring, TX, made the trip north to help with the choir; Nikolai Lochmatow assisted with the services
The Youth Department is grateful to the Fund for Assistance to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the St John Kochurov Society for their financial assistance and to all those who made this event a success.
