Feast-Day Celebrations at St Tikhon of Zadonsk Church in the Former Orphanage Founded by St John of Shanghai and San Francisco
On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, during the Apodosis of the Transfiguration of the Lord, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America celebrated feast-day Divine Liturgy at St Tikhon of Zadonsk Church, in the former orphanage founded by St John (Maximovich, +1966) of Shanghai and San Francisco. Also in the building is the modest residence where the saint lived, now repurposed as the diocesan headquarters. His Eminence was joined in the service by His Grace Bishop Theodosius of Seattle, Archimandrite Irinei (Steenberg) and visiting clergymen.
During the minor entrance, Vladyka Kyrill awarded the double orarion to Deacn Nikolai Zharkov, a cleric of St Tikhon Church. After the Eucharistic prayers, Priest Leonid Kazakov, Rector of St Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in San Francisco addressed the worshipers with some words about the life and works of St Tikhon. After Liturgy and a moleben, the clergymen and parishioners enjoyed a trapeza in the refectory.
