Nativity Celebrations at New York’s Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign”
On the eve of the great feast day of the Nativity of Christ, all-night vigil was headed by His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Vice Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, at the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign” in New York. His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, officiated at Liturgy the following day, joined by the cathedral’s clergymen: Protopriest Andrei Sommer, Senior Priest, Protopriest Vasily Raskovsky and Protopriest Peter Zgoba; Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff and Protodeacon Vadim Gan, Deacon Nathan Mouselli, Deacon Nazary Fateliev and Deacon Dionisy Lvov. Peter Fekula directed the Synod Choir.
After Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Hilarion gave Subdeacon George Schatiloff the Synodal Medal of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God, First Degree, the highest honor in the Russian Church Abroad, for his 57 years of service to the cathedral. On Christmas Eve, Divine Liturgy was celebrated jointly by Metropolitan Hilarion and Bishop Nicholas along with the cathedral’s clergymen.
