Divine Services at SS Peter and Paul Cathedral in Strathfield Welcome Bishop George of Canberra, Vicar of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand
On Bright Friday, April 17, 2015, SS Peter and Paul Cathedral in Strathfield, Australia, hosted Divine Liturgy headed by His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, who remained the Archbishop of Australia and New Zealand after his election as Primate in 2008. His Eminence was joined by local bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, His Grace Bishop Irenaeus, and His Grace Bishop George of Canberra, as well as clergyman from throughout the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand and representatives of local Orthodox churches who serve in Australia.
After a Paschal procession of the cross around the cathedral, Metropolitan Hilarion greeted Bishop George upon his arrival, wishing him blessed success and heavenly aid in serving at his new cathedra.
During the festive celebration that followed, organized by the cathedral sisterhood, the clergymen, laity and guests spoke warm words of welcome to the new bishop.
