SAN FRANCISCO: January 20, 2017
A Concert in Honor of the Alexandrov Ensemble Will Be Held at the San Francisco Cathedral
On Friday, February 3, 2017, four choirs will perform jointly in memory of the 60 singers of the Alexandrov Choir who lost their lives in the airline crash in the Black Sea last December. Among them were Dr Elizaveta Glinka, six employees of Pervy Kanal News and others.
The concert will be held at Star of the Sea at 4420 Geary Boulevard and 8th Avenue in San Francisco (free parking at the church), and will begin at 8 pm. The performers include Slavyanka Choir, the Cathedral Choir of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow,” All Russian Saints Church Choir from Burlingame, CA, and Diakonia Choir of San Francisco.
The program will include Russian liturgical music and songs from the Alexandrov repertoire. Entrance is free.
The loss of the popular Alexandrov ensemble is a great tragedy for the Russian people. Since the 1950’s, the choir bridged the divide between the USSR and the USA, giving many Americans the opportunity to hear the magnificent beauty of Russian choral art. This concert will serve as a token of profound respect and gratitude to the Alexandrov Choir.
