A Delegate of the Synod of Bishops Officiates at All-Orthodox Services on the Sunday of Orthodoxy
On Sunday, March 5, 2017, the feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, Divine Liturgy was celebrated at Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Church in New York City, followed by the Rite of Orthodoxy. Services were headed by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, head of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in America (Constantinople Patriarchate). He was joined by hierarchs and clergymen of the Constantinople, Russian, Serbian and American Orthodox Churches.
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Protopriest Andrei Sommer, Senior Priest of the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign” in New York, represented ROCOR at the services.
After a procession of the cross that followed, which included many Orthodox children, Archbishop Demetrios thanked the worshipers, expressing the hope that the joint celebration on the Sunday of Orthodoxy would in the future draw even more representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches.
