The Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad convenes

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, a regular session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia was held remotely under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad. Taking part in the meeting were His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany; His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America; His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada; His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe; His Grace Bishop Theodosius of Seattle, First Vicar of the Western American Diocese and His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart.

Reports were heard by Bishop Irenei, Secretary for Inter-Orthodox Relations, and Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (of the Russian Church Abroad).

The Synod of Bishops granted the request for retirement of Bishop Alexander of Vevey, Vicar of the Western European Diocese, with gratitude for his labors and the right to serve in St Barbara's Church in Vevey.

The Synod of Bishops also considered various ecclesiastical disciplinary, property, administrative and economic issues, as well as a number of petitions from the Most Reverend Archpastors, who presented their clergy and parishioners for church awards.
