Ascension of the Savior Convent on the Mount of Olives celebrates the patronal feast of the refectory church
On the day of Righteous Philaret the Merciful, December 1/14, 2024, Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the feast day of the Refectory Church of the Ascension Convent of the Savior on the Mount of Olives, Jerusalem. The service was led by Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia). Concelebrating were Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeev) of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (Moscow Patriarchate) Hegumen Jonah (Galishnikov), Hieromonk Gerasim (Kotovsky), under Hierodeacon Amphilochius (Mazur) and Deacon Macarius Petukhov.
In his sermon, Fr Roman spoke about the important role that mercy plays in our Christian life. The main thing is to be on good terms with your loved ones. It is important to be forgiving and kind, to refrain from hurtful words and be ready to help others. Recalling the words from the Lenten Triodion: "Come, let us cleanse yourselves with alms and generosity of the poor," Archimandrite Roman recalled that now is the time of fasting, and giving mercy to the needy is a great blessing in the eyes of God.
Upon completion of Liturgy, the clergy and head of the convent, Abbess Barbara, with the sisters and worshippers, performed a moleben with a procession of the cross around the church with the sprinkling of holy water.
