The Diocese of Mid-America commemorates the 40th day of the repose of Archbishop Peter

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the feast day of the Great Martyr Barbara, His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada officiated at Divine Liturgy at Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral in Chicago, IL, on the occasion of the fortieth day of the repose of Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America. Concelebrating with His Eminence were His Eminence Metropolitan Longin of New Gracanica and Chicago, (Serbian Orthodox Church); His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and Midwest (Orthodox Church of America) and His Grace Bishop Seraphim of Kostajnica (Serbian Orthodox Church), their clergy, and clerics of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America.

At the end of the service, Archbishop Gabriel addressed the congregation with words of condolences and edification, after which a cathedral pannikhida was performed in the middle of the church. The cathedral sisterhood then offered a memorial luncheon, during which a video dedicated to the memory of the deceased was shown.

The next day, December 18, the Synod of Bishops issued a decree entrusting the temporary administration of the Diocese of Mid-America to Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada.
